Wichita, Kan. (KWCH) – Repairing roof damage by wind or hail can be expensive, as is without fraudsters to make a difficult situation far worse.
After three rounds of heavy storms, which were torn through parts of Kansas, including the Wichita area, on Tuesday by parts of Kansas, Factfinder passes on tips that you can use to ensure that every company that you set to repair storm damage or cleaning after the storm is legitimate.
Within a few days after strict storms, the contractors often increase significantly who knock on doors or publish signs in the neighborhood and offer to repair their roof.
The Better Business Bureau says that you are in a hurry to carry out repairs, be sure to explore the company before you pay any amount of money.
Tips to avoid contract fraudsters:
- If an offer sounds too good to be true, it is likely.
- Ask for the company's registration information. – The BBB says that the most common mistake is that people do not do this because they do not want to comb through state licenses. To determine whether a company is accredited, check the BBB website by searching the company's name: www.bbbb.org/Search.
- Get at least three commandments for how much the repair project could cost. This gives you a general sense of the market rate. – If an offer appears too cheap, it could be a fraud.
“If someone is far below the market rate, there could be a reason for this so that they can measure something effectively,” said Josh Planos with the BBB. “The most important part of the house is the roof and you want to make sure that you do not take abbreviations there, even if it is financially advantageous.”
BBB says that if you agree to work with an contractor, make sure that all areas of the project are in writing. It is a red flag when the contractor's terms and conditions are vague or if you say that you have all resources that will help you immediately because fraudsters put you under pressure.
