South Bend, Ind. (WSBT) – When we were added to a second striker round on Wednesday evening, some customers have been without electricity since Sunday.
This number has decreased from day to day because the restoration efforts are fully in force.
While pension crews work hard to restore power, local communities appear in great ways.
For some customers it was more than three days without electricity.
Over 60,000 customers were affected by the storm on Sunday.
On Wednesday afternoon, more than 95% of customers were made online again.
That was before the storms rolled through on Wednesday evening.
While progress has been made, there is still work and the community helps to a large extent.
Power restoration crews this week are working all over the region to restore power from the storm on Sunday and to stand for future power problems.
The storms of Sundays led to 993 clamping widths around depressed power lines, 166 broken poles and 26 damaged transformers throughout Indiana.
In Michigan, the crews 314 found dilapidated spans, 152 broken poles and 27 damaged transformers.
The restoration work did not come without challenges.
Due to heavy rain, flash and strong winds, I&M crews were temporarily stopped on Wednesday afternoon.
As power crews descend in North Indiana, the community appears to help.
The 4-hour measuring site of St. Joseph County has opened its gates for supply crews and a safe place for parking and calm, all of which rest.
“We already had trucks out here, but this is the largest that those of us have ever seen on the board,” said Kristen Sikorski Conclin, President of St. Joseph County 4h Fair.
Every night the exhibition center is a temporary home for hundreds of trucks from all over the region, as the crews continue to work to put the lights back into life and to repair the damage caused by the storm.
“We are only happy to return something as a non -profit organization of the community. It is a safe place. It all contains. It just feels good to know that we provide this for you and help the community,” said Conclin.
Due to the second striker round, I&M was ready and called for another 1,000 crews for mutual aid members to support the restoration efforts.
