Fairfield County, Ohio – A man from Lancaster and his renovation business are at the center of a lawsuit that the Attorney General of Ohio, Dave Yost, has submitted, who says that the company has taken money from local home owners and left unfinished or bad work.
Dwight W. Artrip and his company The Painting Co. Inc. – also known as TPC or the preferred contractor – are sued in Fairfield County before the Common Pleas Court. The lawsuit accuses Arrip and his society to have violated the Consumer sales practices from Ohio and the law to fighter the sale of Home advertising.
The General Prosecutor's office said at least 12 customers submitted complaints after they were either incomplete or poorly made for the conversion projects for home renovation, mainly in kitchen and bathroom work. These customers reported a combined loss of 11,900 US dollars.
Despite the name, the Painting Co. was not primarily a painting business. Instead, it worked as a general housing operator.
According to the lawsuit, Arrip accepted large deposits, delayed work, sometimes did not do the work at all and asked more money before he had completed what he started. The submission also claims that he has carried out work with poor quality, misleading customers through reimbursements and not informing them about their legal right to terminate contracts.
“Ohioan deserves contractors who appear, carry out the work and do the work – not one who provides an endless cycle of excuses, delays and disappearance of acts,” said Yost in a statement.
The Attorney General asks the court to arrange Arrip to repay the homeowners, to suspend civil terms and not to do business, unless he follows the law.
