SEGUIN, Texas – A fire at Navarro High School was “quickly extinguished” after school Monday, according to the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal.
The sheriff's office received a call about smoking at Navarro High School, 6350 State Highway 123 North, around 5 p.m
Guadalupe County Fire Rescue, Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department, Seguin Fire Department, New Braunfels Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department and Lake Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the high school to assist with the incident.
“Our staff immediately initiated evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of all students and staff. No other campuses were affected by this incident and were able to continue extracurricular activities safely,” said Chelsea Ormond, a spokeswoman for the Navarro Independent School District.
According to the district, the source of the smoke and fire was found in the school's ventilation system and the smoke was contained to the front office area.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
“The HVAC system was immediately shut down to prevent further problems with the systems in other areas of the school,” Ormond said. “Fortunately, other areas of campus were not affected and systems are still operational.”
The district said contractors were on site Tuesday to begin repair work on the minimally damaged areas.
“The County Fire Marshals Office, working with the school district, has given the all clear and allowed school to operate normally today, January 14,” Ormond said.
