Albion – a new Mexican restaurant, Mecate, opened the top two of the owners, Fabricio Palma, left and Omar Garcia, in Albion at the former KFC location 172 South Main. Abigail Ramirez is also a co -owner.

The group also has miese restaurants in Henrietta, Webster and Macedon. They opened their first Mecate in 2022.

“We have the feeling that it will be a great addition,” said Garcia. “We bring something new to Albion.”

The Mekate is managed by Lucy Ramirez from Albion. She had worked from the Mezate in Henrietta. About a dozen people work on the Albion location.

Mecate is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant had a soft opening on Thursday.

The owners worked about three months to convert the restaurant. They installed a new bar, stands and kitchen appliances.

The far -reaching menu Mexican dishes also includes specials and soups for lunch. The most popular objects are Birrias, which are slowly beaten beef.

“You will find a bit of every style,” said Garcia about the Mexican food menu.

The Mekate is in the former KFC, which was open in Albion from 2012 to 2019.

The left includes Fabricio Palma, Ofelia Ramirez, Lucy Ramirez, Omar Garcia and Abigail Ramirez. Abigail, Lucy and Ofelia are sisters, and Fabricio Palma and Ofelia Ramirez are married.

Ofelia Ramirez is ready to serve a drink by Mekhi Rivera, the bartender. The 21 -year -old Rivera from Albion said he enjoyed the quick pace in the restaurant business. He said Mecate brought people from other places to train him as a bartender.

Mekhi Rivera, Links and Mayner Rodriguez today work as a bartender in Mecate. Rodriguez works on another mezate and trains Rivera.

The bar includes television and Mecate has the package for displaying NFL games.

The owners chose “Mecate” as a name because they said it sounded catchy. The term mezate means a rope made of hair or mague fibers that are usually used to tie horses.
