The MP Wozniak is correct to restore the merit -based attitude in the state government
MP Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) today voted to ensure that the settings in the state government are based on qualifications and not on identity.
House Bill 4288, which received an overwhelming cross -party support, would have to request state authorities whether objective criteria such as education, professional experience and professional skills are used in the filling of certain positions. Agencies that violate the law could be exposed to fines of up to 10,000 US dollars per crime, which are enforced by the Attorney General in Michigan. The fines would be addressed to the general funds of the state.
“The state government should not hire people based on their identification. It should do people whether they can do the work well,” said Wozniak. “We put back the public service and qualifications at the center of the public service.”
In recent years, the initiatives for diversity, justice and inclusion (Dei) have increasingly influenced attitudes and training decisions in all state departments.
“This legislation ensures that the state government again focuses on performance, skills and experience, not on breed, gender identity or other personal characteristics,” said Wozniak. “Taxpayers earn a government that is occupied by the most qualified persons, not those who have been selected by politically motivated preferences.”
