Portland (WGME) – The Salvation Army is working on helping the homeless to find hope.
Many of the needy are veterans.
This is where the Operation Red Shield program comes into play.
According to the Salvation Army, homeless veterans who face challenges will receive a 1-to-1 case manager.
This includes the first support, but it goes far beyond fighting emergency needs.
“We may help with the rent of the first month when you move to a new place or get it into your supply companies. From there you can only see what other advantages you can use,” said Brittany Ward, director of the social services of the Salvation Army Northeast Division, Brittany Ward.
The Salvation Army has helped some veterans to receive roof repairs.
One person received help with a heat pump.
You will coordinate with other groups to help in different ways.
