The restoration work at the Mtarfa nursing home is entering the next phase

Restoration work on an elderly care home in Mtarfa has entered the next phase, the government said on Saturday.

Work on the upper floors of Dar il-Ġmiel is nearing completion. The balconies were restored, plaster walls were built and other structural changes were made.

The focus will now shift to the ground floor of the property, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Active Aging said.

Junior Minister Malcolm Paul Agius Galea toured the site, which still serves as a nursing home during restoration work. The home also continues to offer services such as a dementia day center.

Agius Galea said the work, much of which will be carried out by Active Aging and Community Care Department (AACC) staff, will be carried out carefully to ensure residents are not disturbed.

AACC official Pawlu Muscat explained that work is now focused on installing new electrical, plumbing and drainage systems as well as installing new furniture in residents' rooms.
