The bedroom is the place where you start and end each day, a place that is meant to be both restful and inspiring. One of the most compelling ways to add character to a bedroom is to fearlessly try new trends. “A bedroom gains depth, intrigue, and a uniquely vibrant personality that feels both curated and spontaneous when different aesthetics harmonize,” says Valentina De Santis, who led the bedroom renovation of the 18th-century Passalacqua Hotel.
Below, design experts share their bedroom trend predictions in 2025. Whether you're looking for calm or something livelier, there's something for everyone.
1. Moody Hues
Expect deeper, moodier bedroom colors in 2025. “A dark bedroom creates a warm, enveloping effect that enhances comfort and relaxation, making it the perfect sanctuary in your home,” says Becky Shea, creative director and founder of BS/D. “The way darker tones interact with light, gently refracting it rather than reflecting it, creates a soothing atmosphere, like being wrapped in a cozy, protective space.”
“Rich hues like chocolate brown, dusty plum and inky blue create a sumptuous backdrop in bedrooms in the new year,” says Emily Vaughan, owner of Emily Vaughan Interior.
“The colors will be moody, but in a pleasant way,” says Anna Kroesser, partner and lead designer at Kroesser + Strat Design. “They're not overly dark, which makes them ideal for the bedroom where you want to settle down and relax.”
2. Pattern punching
In 2025, bedrooms will be full of patterns. “A chintz textile is the perfect choice when adding a single fabric to walls, windows and furniture,” says Vaughan. Layers of traditional textiles create a tranquil stage. “Modern checks and large florals paired with bold textures will be very popular in the new year,” adds Laura McKoy, creative director and vice president of interior design at Omni Hotels & Resorts.
3. Out-of-view technology
“In 2025, bedrooms will serve as quiet retreats, equipped with minimal and often camouflaged technology,” says Tiffany Matthews, founder and designer of Motif Homes. Things like under-bed lighting, hidden speakers and charging stations, and TV chests at the foot of the bed keep electronic devices out of sight.
“Our guests expect a flat-screen TV in every room, so we wanted to create a way to hide the TV so that it didn’t detract from the room’s historic decor,” says De Santis. “Using a steamer at the end of the bed was an ideal and unique way to achieve our goal; Beautiful leather and wood suitcases convey a vintage aesthetic while keeping modern technology out of sight.”
4. Prioritize well-being
In 2025 we will see a shift towards bedrooms that prioritize wellbeing and comfort. “Bedrooms go beyond just functional spaces for rest; They become deeply personal retreats that serve to restore and inspire. In the new year, we will continue to incorporate calming sensory elements through curated art, layered textures and customizable lighting,” says Marie Cloud, owner/principal designer of Indigo Pruitt.
5. Simple bedding
Characterized by clean lines and a focus on functionality over decoration, the monastery bed is on trend for 2025. “People don't want to have to take a million pillows out of bed at night and then put them back on in the morning,” says Michael Fowler, creative director at Michael Fowler Creative. “We'll see simpler bedding that includes a blanket, throw and lumbar pillow – much easier to make and fancier to look at.”
“We're moving away from excessive bedding and opting for a few bold moments – an oversized Euro pillow or a uniquely textured lumbar pillow – to keep the look elegant yet relaxed,” adds Laura Lubin, founder and principal designer of Ellerslie Interiors . “This balanced, deliberate layering gives a bed an elegant look without sacrificing comfort.”
6. Carpeting
This once-popular flooring is making a comeback. “Its soft feel underfoot is unbeatable, and using a single flooring material can make a small space feel larger,” says Vaughan. “A solid color carpet in a rich hue creates a strong, grounding statement and gives a bedroom a strong feel.”
Wall-to-wall rugs in natural and bright colors help create a calming bedroom. “It brings warmth and feel that makes people feel safe and relaxed,” says Jamie Welborn, senior vice president of product development for residential rugs at Mohawk.
7. Personalized aesthetics
Bedrooms will trend toward a more purposeful aesthetic in the new year, with designers filling bedrooms with furniture and accessories that their customers connect to, colors with meaning, and textures that bring comfort. “It's about being a personal reflection of the person who lives and sleeps in that space,” says Nadia Watts, owner/founder of Nadia Watts Interior Design.
8. Statement headboards
Headboards in bright colors and whimsical shapes like bows and scallops, as well as fabrics like corduroy and tufted velvet, will be trendy in 2025. “This reflects a move away from traditional minimalism towards a highly curated, personalized bedroom,” says Moshe Halberstam, interior designer at Vänt.
“Upholstered headboards with warm caramel leather or light velvet in a vertical channel tuft provide a feeling of softness,” says Joelle Henning, senior designer at HBA San Francisco. They can also provide much-needed relief in a room with hard surfaces like wood, metal, glass, and stone, adds Victoria Armour, co-owner of Stil James.
9. Ambient and shift lighting
Lighting in bedrooms emphasizes versatility and atmosphere. “Dimmable, layered lighting with a combination of wall lights, table lamps and ceiling lights allows for different moods and functional needs,” says Cloud. Materials like textured and antique brass add a touch of vintage charm while making the lighting feel soft and enveloping, adds Marker.
10. Useful accessories
Carefully curated accessories that add character without creating clutter will be trendy in 2025. “Accessories will be less numerous and ideally handmade,” says Georgia Gourzela, interior designer at Andronis. They will be intentional, with fewer but more meaningful parts. “Think vintage finds, handmade ceramics and personal art collections,” says Cloud.
“In the new year, we will focus on vignettes and combining some very individual accessories to balance the entire space, rather than a more exuberant look that can seem cluttered,” says Piper Skillman, president of Piper Skillman.
11. Traditional beds
Four poster beds, canopy beds and spindle beds will be popular in 2025. “But they're not the heavy wooden monstrosities of the '80s and '90s, nor anything you'd see on a Victorian-era TV show,” says Fowler. “Today's beds are imagined in sleek metals rather than imposing and colorful woods.” Galey Alix, designer and content creator at Galey Alix Design, adds: “There's something cozy and timeless about a high-height bed.”
“Essentially, we will create sanctuaries that feel like a deep breath after a long day, combining comfort with a sense of understated luxury,” says Lubin.
12. Earthy elements
Organic and biophilic design will continue to influence bedroom aesthetics, combining clean, modern lines with natural, earthy elements. “Tones of clay, olive green, soft taupe and mineral blue add warmth and calm to a bedroom while providing a sense of comfort,” says Vyanca Soto, owner and principal designer of Market Studio Interiors. “Not only are these colors rich and inviting, but they also provide a versatile backdrop to enhance textures and finishes in the bedroom.”
Sage greens and earthy tones will also be trendy in 2025, says Kate Marker, owner and chief designer of Kate Marker Interiors. “They create a peaceful, low-stimulation environment and pair beautifully with layered textures.”
Sustainability will also be a priority as designers and homeowners choose ethical and eco-friendly textiles. Organic, structured fabrics such as linen, bouclé and cotton are combined with rich textures such as velvet to convey a feeling of authenticity and warmth. “Houseplants and natural elements like driftwood and woven baskets will continue to add organic touches to the bedroom,” says Cloud.
13. Hardworking Closets
A well-designed wardrobe is an important aspect in the bedroom. “Closets are an extension of personal style and an essential element of a well-organized space,” says De Santis. “A thoughtfully designed closet allows you to easily manage your everyday life when everything is accessible and beautifully arranged.”
The new year won't be about more space, but about having the right space, including bespoke shelving, smart lighting, clever storage solutions and surfaces that make organization effortless. “It’s going to be about making every inch of the closet work,” says Lubin.
“Walk-in closets are outfitted with colorful paint, wallpaper, and whimsical light fixtures,” says Rebecca Roberts, founder and lead designer of Method + Moxie. They also become more of a dedicated space connected to the bedroom. “With increasing demand for tech integration such as integrated charging stations and smart lighting,” Armor adds.
14. Pop of color
“Experimenting with colors that truly transform a space creates an immersive experience that evokes feelings of joy, calm and romance,” says De Santis. In 2025, the structural and tactile qualities of the neutral bedroom will be further enhanced by color. “Bedrooms will look more unique with the use of color, as opposed to the soft, white-looking bedrooms that have been flooding our feeds lately,” says Armor.
“In 2025, neutral bedroom palettes with bold pops of color will dominate the bedroom scene,” agrees Jennifer Press, founder and principal designer of Press Interiors.
“We'll also see more color in bedrooms, a design technique in which an entire room – walls, ceiling, woodwork, doors – is painted a single color or a related color palette,” Fowler adds. “Imagine jewel tones like deep blues, greens and even deep purples, with the effect of being wrapped in a warm hug.”
