  • Indian company Goldmedal Electricals has launched a futuristic mobile showroom.
  • The single bus looks like a cross between a high-speed train and an airplane.
  • Its interior resembles a science fiction film set and is designed to showcase Goldmedal's products.

It may come as a surprise, but one of the standout attractions at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025 in India wasn't a cutting-edge car or a revolutionary electric vehicle. It was a custom-built bus. Created as a mobile showroom for Goldmedal Electricals, a homegrown Indian company, this unique creation is inspired by spacecraft in both its exterior and interior design.

The bus was designed by DC2 Mercury, a studio led by veteran Indian automotive designer Dilip Chhabria. The 71-year-old designer, best known for developing India's first supercar, the DC Avanti, as well as numerous bespoke vehicles, brings decades of expertise to this project. His latest creation could be described as a modern interpretation of the GM Futurliner – a moving billboard for Goldmedal Electricals products.

The Gold Medal has an aerodynamic and curved body with a large glass area at the front and fully covered wheels. Its shape is a cross between a bullet train and an airplane, although the vehicle is based on the chassis of a normal bus and most likely uses a borrowed powertrain.

The exterior features a satin finish highlighted by bright red accents and Gold Medal branding. According to reports, the molded body was made from 700 molds using composite materials from the aerospace industry. The LED headlights and taillights are also custom-made, with the latter surrounding a large display.

Open the large doors and you'll find a relatively standard dashboard – likely a legacy from the donor bus – keeping things practical at the front. But if you go further into the cabin, the story is very different. The back section looks like something out of a science fiction epic or a futuristic video game.

When parked, the vehicle can be transformed thanks to three hydraulic extension sections – two on the sides and one at the rear – which extend outwards to create additional interior space. Unlike traditional RVs, where these sections typically provide more living space, the Gold Medal bus expands the showroom area, providing more space to display its products.

Special compartments along the side walls showcase the company's high-end products to potential customers and also have access to a lounge area and minibar. Like any retail space, the booth is well lit and features over 10,000 LEDs with adjustable brightness.

According to its website, Goldmedal Electricals specializes in modular wiring equipment, home automation systems, LED lighting, MCBs, distribution panels, wires and cables, doorbells, electrical accessories and PVC pipes.

Given all this, it's no surprise that the mobile showroom came with a hefty price tag. Goldmedal Electricals claims to have invested ₹180,000,000 (US$2 million) in developing the vehicle. The company expects to recoup this investment through the exposure it generates, starting with its debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo. From there, the bus will embark on a nationwide tour, stopping at various events across India to showcase both the brand and its products.
