The US message in Cairo has confirmed the completion of three contracts between the US company rail and the Egyptian National Railways, which aims to improve the railway infrastructure in Egypt.

The total value of these contracts exceeds $ 235 million and is expected to strengthen economic relationships between the two nations and at the same time generate employment opportunities.

The signing event took place in the Ministry of Transport in the new administrative capital.

The agreements include the renovation of 1,000 diesel electrolocomotives that have a value of $ 185 million.

In addition, there is a 15-year contract for the provision of parts for 141 locomotives of $ 42 million and a five-year technical assistance service contract for the same number of locomotives worth $ 5 million with a potential extension by another five years.

The US ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg said: “I am enthusiastic about seeing the signing of these contracts, the Egypt and the United States bring wealth.

The United States is proud to be part of the expanding railway infrastructure in Egypt, and our companies are looking forward to playing an important role in supporting the railway infrastructure, which is of crucial importance for promoting economic growth and stability in the region. “

In May 2024, Alstom completed a signaling upgrade for the 250 km long Beni Suef Assuyt railway line in Egypt along the Nile.

The project included the installation of the advanced Sil 4 Electronic Inverlocking system IXL Smartlock 400 GP across the entire line.

In April of the same year, the high-speed rail project in Egypt selected British Steel to offer a segment of the line that connects Alexandria with the Mediterranean coast, the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea.

The contract includes the delivery of 9,500 t track to Alexandria for a 660 km long section of the network, which is equipped with a speed of up to 250 km/h for passenger and freight trains.
