The Varsity Baseball Matchup on Monday between Host Hunt High and Beddingfield was the first in a while between the Warriors and Bruins -and it can take a while for them to meet again.

For two teams who have recently traveled in different different directions, the 19-0 victory of the Warriors 19-0 in five Innerings have not done anything to change the trajectory of both. Hunt scored 19 goals and at the same time benefited from 16 free trips based on six walks, five batteries and five Beddingfield errors, while three Warriors pitchers combined on a no-hitter.

Warriors Junior wants to get victory on the hill, while 3 for 3 with a Homerun and three RBis on the plate.

Hunt and Beddingfield, both opened in 1978, no longer met the baseball diamond since the Warriors won 11-0 on March 12, 2019 in Beddingfield. The sports director of Beddingfield, Jody O'Neal, announced at the beginning of this year that the Bruins will probably plan fewer games against Hunt and Fike in the future as Bedding search opponents who offer opponents. The last winning season of the Bruins in the baseball found in 2013, a year after the current Bruins head coach Matt Ballance, in Beddingfield. Ballance took over a program in 2022, which had not played a game for two seasons.

“I guess that Matt trains a game with us and a lot of matt,” said Jon Smith, head coach of Veteran Hunt. “He did a good job to at least get them where they are because I know it was bad for a few years, but Matt is a good coach. His co -trainers do a good job. Sometimes it works in the high school sport in cycles, but you have to give them recognition that they are out there and work hard, and children seem to have a good time and train them. ”

After a start of 0: 3, Hunt three was won directly to build dynamics when it turns into the meat of its 3-A-Quad County conference plan, while the Bruins have another non-conference game before starting 2-A New 6 conference games next week. Beddingfield has lost all four games with a combined 78-4 lead.

“We got a little bit about our chops. We made some pretty hard blows, but as a group it is not a good thing if we do not learn from the mistakes we do,” said a frustrated ball, “and I have the feeling that this is something that is a bit in the air. Some of us learn a few things from it and we become a bit humble.

“So, I think we'll be a better conference game? Yes, I think we will be because we will not see the talent that we have seen in the last two and a half, three weeks. But you know that the next week we will have to grow up very quickly for a very young group next week to ensure that we will be the possibilities of winning baseball games next week next week. ”

Bruin's pitcher went 39 opposite battery and beat 12 more, while Beddingfield achieved more than three mistakes per game on average. Ballance praised the newcomer Austin Wilson as the most constant hurler in the strike zone and expressed hope that Junior Fernando Abazan would return to his form in 2024 if he was solid from the bullpen.

But the shortcomings of the bruins are also shared throughout the beating.

“I think we sit on the plate in jugs and we don't do any favors by watching the fastball at the beginning of the count,” said Ballance. “And that is something we, to be offensive, to meet the fastball.”

Finding trust is still a task for the inexperienced bruins, who only have two seniors – Justin Kirby and Keevie Hooks – on the field.

“We are looking for hits, but we are afraid to swing the bat,” said Ballance.

The Bruins planned this season with games against 3-A First Flight, Rocky Mount and Hunt as well as 2-A Martin County, which won 15 games in 2024.

“I told the children that we gave them a tougher non -conference because we learn collectively as a group by playing in Kinstons and North Edgecomme and playing some of these teams that we know better than,” said Ballance. “I don't have the feeling that it makes us better. Have I now expected that we will compete a little more than what we have? Yes, I have that, but we also shot a lot into our foot. You cannot expect you to give yourself the opportunity to be in ball games if we cannot throw strikes, and I have the feeling that many of our problems are currently there. We have to find a way to order the zone. ”

After a certain rain failed early, Hunt scored 13 runs at the end of the first inning and added four more in her biggest offensive explosion since Smithfield-Selma's whipping last season. The seniors Barnes Willoughby and Joe Glover each went 3 for 4 and scored a run for the Warriors. Willoughby knocked in two runs and Glover drove into one. Junior Trevor Moore was 2 for 3 with four RBIs, while the Senior Ryan Bass traced himself and moved into two bats. Sophomore Beau Benton was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs score. The newcomer Zach Meeks also drove in three runs.

“It made it possible for us to play and bring some boys who hadn't played as much as they probably wanted,” said Smith. “For us, we are still in the works early in the season. So, you know, give the opportunity to see what some people can do in a game situation, which was helpful. Perhaps we can use it to get better and get a little confidence because we swung the bats well, and tomorrow evening is a big one, and all of these conference games we have will be difficult. I was glad that we could get it. ”

The Warriors gathered at East Wake at their Quad County Opener last week and now play seven against QCC enemies. But like Beddingfield, Hunt began planning difficult non-conference opponents such as the defense of Nchsaa 2-A-master Greene Central, who had to cross the Warriors 7: 4, and an unbeaten southwest of Edgecompbe.

“Our line -up and our defensive line -up now look very different from game 1,” said Smith. “We missed snow for a few days in the field, and I didn't do it-I did not set a set-in-stone line-up tomorrow evening (at CB Aycock). Nevertheless, there will probably be someone who sits on the bench who could have a good day against someone in the line -up on a certain day.

“I just try to find ways to reduce this competition, be it exercise or games, and it will only take some time. You would like to win while you are doing it, but unfortunately we have a hard start of 0: 3 and really had two of these games, so it was difficult to swallow. But they go on and just try to get better and realize that it is a marathon, not a sprint. ”
