We need local gardeners! Volunteer Home Garden for Habitat Rehabilitation with Grow-It-Forward Restoration

The nonprofit Grow It Forward Restoration is looking for green-fingered homeowners who would like to house 100 native seedlings in a 4×4 area of their yard. After 8 months, the seedlings are strong enough to be transported to local conservation organizations who will plant them in sites (e.g. local fisheries) that need restoration.

Your green thumb could help restore Seattle area waterways!

How does it work?

For $100 we provide the seedlings, soil, plastic pots and a tarp. We found the $100 to be a good way to cover costs and keep the hosts engaged in the health of the plants.

At the beginning of March, a volunteer truck driver will deliver soil to your home. In mid-March you will pick up the 100 seedlings, pots and tarps (which can even be transported in small vehicles!) at the Phinney Community Center. With your materials in hand, you can now pot up your 100 seedlings and set them up for success in your garden!

After 8 months, the seedlings are healthy enough to be transported to a local conservation organization by a volunteer! Thanks to your volunteer work, the seedlings can be sold to conservation companies at an extremely affordable price!
