“You said you hired a professional”

"You said you hired a professional"

A controversial Facebook video is to make waves online for the wrong reasons-and to trigger an urgently needed conversation about lawn care.

In the video the Creator Middlesex Tree, LLC swings to a series of trees that looks on what looks like miniature sludge volcanoes.

“How to plant trees,” they say.

And the caption drives the point home: “Where is the root flickers? Can the floors of these tribes breathe? How long do you expect these poor river vikes to take this?” The Creator ends with a cheeky push – “You said you hired a professional.”

The problem? These trees suffer from a so -called “mulch volcano”, a frequent but harmful practice in which too much mulch is stacked around the base of a tree. It is not only a waste of time and money – mulch can cost homeowners every year hundreds of dollars – but he can actually suffocate the tree, which leads to putrefaction, illness and early death.

This is a high price for a landscape design that looks neat but harms more than benefits.

Fortunately, there are better, more affordable options for your garden – and they are also easier to maintain. For example, local plant lawn needs less water, no fertilizers and much less maintenance than traditional lawn grass. Buffalo -grass, clover, xeriscaping and even partial lawn changes can have a major influence.

They not only lower the water bills and lower mowing time, but also offer a critical habitat for pollinators, which in turn contributes to expanding the food that we all rely on.

And in the event that you are worried about the resale value, it turns out that environmentally friendly yards are increasingly attractive to buyers. Saving money, saving bees and increasing your curb? This is a win-win situation.

Commentators on the Facebook video had a lot to say.

“Looks like they had just rolled and buried them on the spot,” joked a commentator.

Another joked about an additional disadvantage of this setup and said: “I also laugh when people support new transplanted trees with missions. Trees are supposed to fluctuate with the wind, makes the roots stronger.”

A third summarized the frustration and wrote: “The way to plant nothing ….. First storm, they would be on the floor. Poor design and execution by landscape science.”
