Zero 2 is an energy-neutral smart home that focuses on health and well-being

A collaboration between carbon-free home company Marisol Malibu and DSI, this home sets new standards for health, well-being and energy efficiency. Called Zero 2, this incredible property features home automation technology from DSI as well as the latest wellness technologies including air and water purification systems, circadian lighting and smart home automation.

“This remarkable home goes beyond luxury and is at the heart of sustainability,” says Eric Thies, CEO of DSI, whose team is no stranger to developing incredible, zero-carbon smart home builds.

The home's sustainability initiatives go beyond simple efficiency and include solar panels, energy storage and organic gardens, making it a modern eco-living model. It is also designed to evolve with the owner's needs, as systems like Josh.ai's voice control are able to better learn and understand the owner's routines, allowing the system to adapt to their lifestyle and their needs Adjusts preferences.

Zero 2 offers an intuitive, health-oriented living experience

One of the biggest challenges was integrating a building management system for each health and wellness technology without compromising the look and feel of the home. Not to mention, the client's requirement for an energy-neutral home also presented its own challenge.

To address the latter, DSI maximized efficiency for health, comfort and well-being with an adaptive control system that monitors all home systems simultaneously. Hidden intelligent sensors adjust setpoints, light scenes and power profiles based on room usage or overall occupancy. This ensures an energy-efficient environment that responds to residents' needs while optimizing comfort and health. It also requires minimal input from the homeowner.

Crestron automation processors have been integrated into Lutron lighting and shading systems for energy efficiency. The alarm system provides real-time feedback on door and window status, allowing the HVAC system to adjust and save energy. Occupancy sensors further optimize lighting and HVAC controls by turning off power in unoccupied rooms.

Load shedding is also adaptive, so energy consumption is reduced during extended absences, regardless of whether the owners are away during the day or seasonally. This adaptive system ensures Zero 2 is comfortable, energy efficient and responsive to owners' needs – a home like no other.
